Details

The Technical and Scientific Cooperation (TSC) portfolio under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) supports member states (Parties) in achieving biodiversity goals by fostering cooperation, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and expertise, and enhancing access to available data, resources, and technologies. The Kunming–Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF) is a landmark agreement aimed at reversing biodiversity loss and ensuring the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity. Adopted at the 15th Conference of the Parties to the CBD in December 2022, it is crucial for setting clear targets and pathways for global biodiversity conservation. Beyond this instrumental role, the KMGBF and the package of related decisions are essential for fostering capacity-building and development and technical and scientific cooperation. At subregional levels, this is aimed to be realized through Technical and Scientific Cooperation Support Centres (TSCC). The European Subregional TSCC, launched in September 2025 is coordinated by the European Commission's Knowledge Centre for Biodiversity (KCBD) in partnership with the Centre for Mediterranean Cooperation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN Med) and the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (RBINS). With the support of the Cooperation for the Convention on Biological Diversity (CO-OP4CBD) project funded by the European Union, that is operating in close collaboration with the TSCC, it is the objective of this roundtable to have the European subregional TSCC presenting its governance, objectives and workplan to biodiversity conservation specialists, inviting these to engage and contribute to the TSCC knowledge management strategy and associated capacity building activities targeting the science–policy interfaces. The discussions will build on opportunities for cooperation and coordination in peer-to-peer matchmaking, exchanges of best practices and case studies, including the possibilities of integrating traditional ecological knowledge and engaging its holders within the European context.
