Achieving effective biodiversity conservation depends on decisions that are informed by the best available evidence. This 1.5-hour interactive workshop will equip participants with the skills to find, assess, and apply evidence, and introduce them to the Conservation Evidence website: a practical tool for making evidence-based decisions in conservation. The session will combine live website exploration, small-group activities, and discussions. Participants will learn how to find, interpret, and apply evidence. In groups, they will be provided with a conservation scenario, and tasked with providing an evidence-based recommendation, using the skills and techniques discussed.
The workshop aims to:
1. Strengthen participants’ understanding of what constitutes “evidence” in conservation and how reliability and relevance can be assessed.
2. Demonstrate how to use the Conservation Evidence website to inform decision-making.
3. Provide experience in applying evidence to real decision-making scenarios.
4. Encourage reflection on how different types of knowledge and experience contribute to the evidence base.
We will also discuss how Conservation Evidence are incorporating AI into evidence-synthesis, and the risks and advantages that come with this.
