Subtheme: 1. Multi-purpose cycle route networks Understanding who the users are helps professionals create the best cycling products matching the demand, make the case for more cycling investments and prove the impact of an existing offer. It is not only about current cycling tourists, but also about potential future ones. This session presents the most recent data on cycling tourists’ profiles and behaviour, combining multiple methodologies and focus areas, and opens a discussion on how to deepen our understanding of users.

Biography

Holger is responsible for ECF’s work on cycling data collection, on fiscal incentives for cycling in Europe and on the economic benefits of cycling. Holding a master’s degree in European Economic Studies from the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Holger has previous work experience at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union and in corporate public affairs.

I'm the founder and CEO of Bikenomist, an Italian media company focused to normalize cycling as a tool for daily commuting and holidays. In 2013 I founded Bikeitalia.it, the most read Italian online magazine about cycling. Since 2022 Bikenomist organizes the Cycle Tourism Show.

Joanna Ślusarska has been associated with the Marshal’s Office of the Małopolska Region for over a dozen years. Since 2019, she has been the Head of the Cycling Development Team in the Department of Tourism. Personally, she is passionate about travel, design thinking, and network intelligence.

Biography

Hans Stoops is the advocacy officer at the IMBA Europe, representing the needs of the mountain bike community. He previously worked at Cykelfrämjandet with responsibility for recreational cycling, mountain biking and cycling and now sits as a board member. He is also the co-chair of the Warmshowers Foundation.

Cycling Tourism at the Crossroads: ADFC Bicycle Travel Analysis Findings and Recommendations for the Future

Biography

Christian Tänzler studied economic geography, business management and regional planning in Hanover and Cologne and worked for several years in product management for tour operators before switching to press relations via an apprenticeship in further education in tourism. At Tourismus-Marketing Brandenburg GmbH and later also at Potsdam Tourismus GmbH, he headed the press and public relations department for seven years. For more than 20 years, he has been responsible for international and, since 2019, primarily national media contacts at Berlin Tourismus & Kongress GmbH, was the company's spokesperson and is a passionate cyclist. In addition, he has been responsible for bicycle tourism on the federal board of the ADFC (German Cyclists`Association) since 2021.
