Plant Breeding has a Problem with Gender - GREAT Agriculture, Jul 29, 2019

We started GREAT Agriculture (greatagriculture.org) because plant breeding has a problem with gender. All too often, women and other marginalized groups don't benefit from new agricultural technologies. GREAT courses equip researchers to create more inclusive and effective agricultural systems by addressing the priorities of both women and men. Our training program is informed by a critical lens on gender and power dynamics within agricultural value chains. GREAT delivers training to agricultural researchers, with a focus on Sub Saharan Africa, in the theory and practice of gender-responsive research, seeking to increase opportunities for equitable participation and the sharing of benefits from agricultural research and improve the outcomes for smallholder women farmers, entrepreneurs, and farmer organizations. From intentions to outcomes: How to ensure that agricultural development projects empower women? Apr 27, 2021

Women and Gender in Development Virtual Conference Session: World Cafe Organization: CGIAR GENDER Platform Presenter: Dr. Hazel Malapit Abstract: Women’s empowerment is not only among the global goals guiding international development efforts toward 2030, but is also the stated goal of numerous agricultural development projects and investments. But, how can project leaders, investors and other decision-makers know whether their intervention is on track to actually empower women? The Reach-Benefit-Empower framework, developed by the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), clearly distinguishes between approaches that reach women as participants, those that benefit women, and those that empower women. Empowering strategies focus on strengthening the ability to make strategic life choices, which may require working with both women and men to alter intrahousehold dynamics. The CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agri‐Food Systems further developed the original framework to include ‘transform’ as a fourth category, for projects that also aim to transform gender relations both within and outside the household.

Closing the gap between men and women in agriculture, FAO, Dec 1, 2011, 2.15 min

The world cannot eliminate hunger without closing the gap between men and women in agriculture. With equal access to productive resources and services, such as land, water and credit, women farmers can produce 20 to 30 percent more food, enough to lift 150 million people out of hunger.

Women in Rice Farming, Premiered Mar 8, 2021, 4 min

Did you know that at least 500 million women around the world are engaged in rice cultivation? Furthermore, women comprise almost half of the global agricultural labor force. However, most of women's agricultural labor is unpaid and unrecognized. In this video, we elaborate the challenges and opportunities in our road towards #gender #equity in the #rice #agri-#food system.
