Uganda Insect Industry: Farmers encouraged to feed insects, Mar 18, 2018, 2.17 min
Women and youth Uganda are being encouraged to feed their livestock insects. They're protein-rich and cheaper than commercially produced animal feed. Scientists in the East African nation also say breeding maggots and earthworms takes up little space compared to growing soy. Abdi Osman reports and features a woman scientist and farmer involved.
Empowering Women in Farming, Rainforest Alliance, Apr 30, 2020, 5 min.
Nearly half of the world's agricultural work is done by women, but they tend to have far less access to training and financing than their male counterparts. Providing women with equal access to these tools results in bigger crop yields, bigger incomes, and improvements to rural communities as women invest that extra money in their children's education and health. Nature benefits too, since increasing crop yields on existing farmland reduces one of the main drivers of deforestation. That's why we're working with partner organizations and rural communities around the world to fight gender inequality.
